Do you want to be a God?

The word God means different things to different people. In this post I am referring to the word God as an ultimate destination in our evolutionary journey.

Look at the things around you. You have the so called ‘inanimate things’, and you have living beings. An inanimate thing operates completely within the framework of causality.  An electric fan starts moving only when you switch it on. It changes the speed only when you tweak its regulator. It cannot do anything on its own.

But look at living beings. Even a creature like a snail turns its head away if you move your fingers near it. It is still driven by the cause. It could have chosen to remain still, ignoring your move. But it chooses to move away to preserve itself. That is what makes it a living being. It is still driven by causality, but also has a free will.

Look at yourself. You too are a living being. You too are within the purview of causality. But you often visualize many options and decide to choose one of them.

For example, when it rains, a lower level creature would somehow try to pull itself under a tree. But you either hold an umbrella, or move inside your house, or you can even explore possibilities of stopping the rain somehow.

Similarly, on provocation an animal may just pounce on you. But you may choose to react depending on your judgment about what is the most suitable reaction. That is what makes you a superior living being.
So, there is a spectrum of beings. On one end we have the inanimate beings, followed by several animate beings with gradation in their ability to escape causality. Some are more free from causality than others. What is at the other end of this spectrum?

On the other end of the spectrum is a being that is completely free from causality. It works purely based on its free will, totally unaffected by the cause. I call this 'limiting point of the spectrum' as God. This limiting point may probably never be reachable. But you can almost be there if you attempt.

So, all that you need to do is – don’t just be driven by causality, use your freewill tempered by your judgment in a given situation. That is the way towards becoming a God – well almost!
