I have great respect for Swami Vivekananda and the organizations he started. Most Swamis in these organizations tread the path of high ideals set forth by Vivekananda.
But unfortunately, of late I am seeing that some of the swamis are deviating from the original path.
Swami Vivekananda was always for reasoning and scientific approach even in spiritual matters. But recently I came across a Swami who advocates pendulum based pseudo science.
I have no reason to doubt the honesty of this Swami. But the beliefs he propagates don’t exactly fall within the high ideals of Vivekananda.
This Swami claims that he can diagnose the ailments of patients who come to him with the help of a pendulum and he even gives Homeopathic treatments to those maladies – again with the help of pendulum power!
This Swami does not charge any fee. So there is no reason to believe that he has any mal-intentions. It is just that he is propagating a belief that can be harmful to his patients and can even cost lives. But Swami is so firm in his belief that he refuses to change his views.
This can be dangerous not only because the life of the patients are at risk, but also the psychological impact it will have on people in general, since the Swami holds an esteemed position and his words are taken seriously by the people. It leads to delusion and ultimately to erosion of faith in any spiritual institution.
The worst news is that the Swami himself is now seriously ill. His pendulum therapy is not helping him. Instead of correcting himself, the Swami insists on finding reasons why his ‘miracle’ therapy is not working on him!
