As many people, so many paths

As we saw in the previouspost, the three basic tendencies namely the Satwa, Rajas and Tamas motivate people to follow different paths.

"People who are motivated by a combination of Rajas and Tamas with no light of Satwa, tend to go after material wealth. They perform various rituals, propitiating various Gods. They get quick results with minimal efforts. But these results are short lived.

There are others who are predominantly driven by Satwa. They go to knowledgeable teachers who have attained ultimate realization. They serve them, ask them questions to clarify their doubts, and with their help get to know the ultimate truth.
Once they know the ultimate truth, all their previous Karma automatically get nullified, in the same way vigorously burning fire renders the wood to ashes.
People who are predominantly action oriented too follow various paths. Some of them perform severe penances withstanding vagaries of nature, controlling their senses. Others practice various forms of breath control and try to attain the ultimate truth. All these are action driven.
But knowledge is superior to any result attained through action.

Even action oriented people can attain this knowledge through Yoga. Through Yoga, one ultimately attains the same knowledge that can be achieved by direct approach followed by Satwa driven people."
How? We will see that next.
