Let me continue with more verses from Bhagavad Gita in this episode, taking off from our previous discussion.
Verse 3.40
We are sometimes overpowered by our desires. These desires take birth in our mind. They are supported by our sense organs and finally by our intellect. Driven by these desires we get deluded. Desires shroud our discretion between right and wrong.Verse 3.41
Desires force us to transgress the limits of righteousness. They blind us from its consequences. We lose our reasoning abilities and fall for them. Unrestrained desires are evil, and they our enemies. We need to free ourselves from their clutches. We need to first keep our sense organs under our control.Verse 3.42
We normally think that our sense organs are very powerful and beyond control. But these sense organs are under the control of our mind. Our intellect governs our mind. Ultimately, all these are subordinate to the soul. Neither the sense organs, nor the mind, nor the intellect is superior to the soul.Verse 3.43
So, one has to first realize the superiority of this soul over all these subordinate entities, namely the sense organs, mind and the intellect.
Next, one has to use the mind to quieten itself through the process of meditation. It is true that desires are almost impossible to win. But by stilling our mind, we can win over this enemy, namely the desires.
