Let me continue with more verses from Bhagavad Gita in this episode, taking off from our previous discussion.
Verse 4.24
Meditation is like a symbolic fire ritual. In a fire ritual, one who performs the fire ritual pours offerings into a fire using specially designed ladles. The purpose of the fire ritual is normally to attain some worldly benefits. And it is believed that the person who performs such a ritual ultimately attains that.
What about this symbolic fire ritual of Meditation?
In meditation, the one who meditates is the one who performs the ritual. He pours himself into the fire which is nothing but himself using the ladle which is also he himself. His aim is to attain self-realization. And he attains that goal when he ultimately reaches the samadhi.
In other words, when one attains samadhi as a culminating stage of meditation, the difference between the meditator, the act of meditation, the process of meditation, all merge indifferentiably. And what remains is only the ultimate reality or the Brahma.
It is as if the Brahma is performing a fire ritual, by pouring Brahma into the fire which is also Brahma, using the ladle that is also Brahma. And what is attained as a result of this ritual is Brahma itself.
This is what happens when one reaches the ultimate Samadhi as a consequence of prolonged meditation.
