NewBook- How to improve concentration?

One
comes across an interesting story in the Buddhist Tipitakas. Once Buddha was passing through a dense forest all alone. It was getting dark. People advised Buddha not to take such a risk since that forest was known to be inhabited by a cruel robber who almost killed any passersby. He even chopped off the fingers of his victims and wore a garland of them! People called him Angulimala – one who wears a garland of fingers.

Buddha was fearless and he ignored their advice and kept walking into the forest.

As anticipated, the cruel man Angulimala blocked Buddha’s way. But Buddha kept walking without bothering about him. Angulimala was furious and he started chasing Buddha. But however much he tried, Angulimala could not catch up with Buddha who was walking calmly with no fear at all! Angulimala could not understand how this frail monk could out beat him! At the end, Angulimala was so impressed by Buddha that he surrendered to Buddha and became his disciple.

Buddhists attribute this feat of Buddha to his mental powers. They say that it was Buddha’s mental powers that subdued the cruel robber. Buddhists, who neither believe in soul nor in God, firmly believe that a sharply focused mind can do wonders. The feats that we normally attribute to God or some super power can be achieved sheerly by a well concentrated mind, according to them! I have not come across any logical reasoning why that is so.

But they are right in the sense that a single pointed mind can definitely achieve things which are not otherwise possible. I am not talking about miracles of the mystical kind but the miracles that are down to earth and of practical significance. Even mundane activities need some mental focus.

Mental focus not only helps us in achieving great success in life, but also minimizes stress by calming down a mind that is shattered by a flurry of thoughts. Less stress means better health. Even a Yogi needs a good mental focus. A single pointed mind is the prerequisite for entering advanced stages of Yoga.

That being the case, how do you improve your mental focus or concentration? That is what I discuss in my new audio book that is just released. This is the fifth part of my “The Ultimate book on Yoga” series. It is titled “Part 5 of The Ultimate Book on Yoga: How to improve concentration?”. It is a one-and-a-half-hour-long audio available in most online book stores and some libraries. You may not find it in amazon/audible though, since they don’t support parts.

In this book I have discussed several techniques to hone your mental concentration. All these techniques are quite simple, needing almost no resources and can be tried by any one with guaranteed results. No matter what your goals are, these techniques are going to work for you. So, do listen to this audio.

As usual, use the link https://books2read.com/UltimateYoga to find this book in your favorite store. This link would take you to the first part of the series. Some stores may list the current part explicitly as a book in the series titled “The Ultimate book on Yoga”, some may show it as “other related books”. In some stores you may have to explicitly search for it using the title in the search box. I am sure that you will find this book very interesting and useful.
