MEDITATION - Summary

In the previous posts we discussed several aspects of meditation. Let me summarize these discussions as below.

  1. There is a definite science behind meditation and we can know it to a large extent.
  2. You need to prepare yourself before you can go ahead with the actual practice.
  3. You need to practice regularly.
  4. There are various ways you can meditate.
  5. These ways can all ultimately lead to same, provided…
  6. There are times best suited for meditation.
  7. Belief in God can aid in meditation.
  8. Going after psychic powers may defeat the very purpose of spiritual practice.
  9. Prolonged meditation is not for everyone.
  10. It is meaningless to hypothesise mysterious things related to meditation.

Whatever I discussed so far is about meditation in general. These things apply to meditation as per Patanjali Yoga as well as the Buddhist form and to some extent Hata Yoga as well.

I have discussed Patanjali's form of meditation in great detail in my book "How and why of Yoga and Meditation". Next I am going to discuss about some specific features of Buddhist form of meditation. Please keep reading for more interesting information.
