The path of devotion

Most of us are emotionally oriented. Emotions come naturally to us. The path of devotion is a natural option for emotional people who can’t follow other paths such as path of inquiry (Jnyaana Maarg), or path of selfless action (Karma Maarg), or path of Yoga or Meditation. How does one go about on this path of devotion?

Bhagavad geetha says

“One should completely concentrate on his chosen God. He should show complete devotion to that God. He should worship only that and show obeisance to it with whole hearted intent.

One should rise above all tendencies that naturally arise in a person and totally surrender to that God,and only to that God.

One should firmly believe that the God would free from all sins. And there is nothing to worry.

In case you can’t concentrate on the God and your mind wavers, keep trying. You will eventually succeed.

If you have a very poor concentration and you fail even after repeated efforts, keep your mind busy in good deeds that are pleasing to the God.

These deeds can be serving others, taking part in voluntary activities in religious places, fasting, singing devotional songs, chanting God’s name, and so on.”

What does one get by doing all this? Is there any other benefit in addition to reaching higher states of the mind?

We will see that next.
