"Most people think that enjoying worldly pleasures is the prime goal of their life.
They follow various ways to acquire worldly wealth. They say that there is nothing beyond this world. They make ‘wise’ statements. But in reality they are the most dumb idiots. The main problem with these people is that their minds are always restless. They are never peaceful.
The truth is that we are not the body which is material in nature. The body as well as all the material things we try to acquire are impermanent. So, we should rise above this limited identity imposed by the body. We should realize that we are beyond matter and are ever blissful souls.
Yes, some religious texts do prescribe various rituals either to get worldly comforts or to attain heavenly abodes. But we should aim for something much beyond these limited goals.
If we restrict ourselves to narrow goals, we are as foolish as a person who goes in search of a well, while he in fact is standing in front of a mighty river."
