Real Yoga

"Many a times we make some effort with some expectation. When we get what we sought for, we get elated and think ‘I have achieved’. But when we fail in our efforts, we get so depressed that we stop putting anymore efforts.

Both these approaches are wrong. In reality, all that we are at liberty is to put efforts. We may or may not succeed. Success or failure may not be always under our control. There are many things that decide the results of our action. Not all of them can be decided by us.

So the right approach is to do whatever we are supposed to be doing without unduly attaching ourselves to either success or failure. Both have to be taken with a balanced and calm mind.

When the mind is unperturbed and calm, when the mind remains in a state of perfect equipoise , that way of attaining tranquility is called Yoga.

This tranquility is not necessarily attained while sitting in a meditative posture and meditating. You can be active performing your duties and still be in a ‘samadhi’ like blissful state, provided you don’t associate yourselves with either success or failure of your actions.

At the same time you should keep doing your duties. That is called ‘Yoga in action’ or Karma yoga."
