QV17.....Don’t waste your time; surrender to God

As I said in the very beginning, Islam is a path of complete surrender. In a previous post, I gave reasons why we should surrender to God.

This idea of surrender as a chosen and inevitable path, is not something new to Quran or Islam. Even before prophet Muhammad, many ancient great men talked about the same path.

In particular, Quran talks about the path that was enunciated by Moses, Abraham. and other Biblical prophets. It lists out various reasons – which some commentators believe as the aphorisms from the ‘Testament of Abraham’.

Firstly, nobody can save us but our own efforts. Some clergy praying on our behalf cannot help. We have to strive for our upliftment.

At the same time, we are sure to be rewarded with the fruits of our toiling. Our ultimate goal in life, should be to move towards God. It is God who gives us all joy as well as misery in our lives. It is he, who has brought us to this life and finally it is he, who will take us back.

“Allaa taziru waaziratunw wizra ukhraa
Wa al laisa lil insaani illaa maa sa'aa

Wa anna sa'yahoo sawfa yuraa

Summa yujzaahul jazaaa 'al awfaa

Wa anna ilaa rabbikal muntahaa

Wa annahoo huwa adhaka wa abkaa

Wa annahoo huwa amaata wa ahyaa

Wa annahoo khalaqaz zawjainiz zakara wal unsaa

Min nutfatin izaa tumnaa

Wa anna 'alaihin nash atal ukhraa”

“… that no bearer of burdens can bear the burden of another.

That man can have nothing but what he strives for.

That the fruit of his striving will soon come in sight.

Then will he be rewarded with a reward complete.

That to your Lord is the final Goal.

That it is He Who grants Laughter and Tears.

That it is He Who grants Death and Life.

That He has promised a Second Creation (Raising of the Dead)” (Quran 53.38-53.47)

The holy Quran says that surrendering to God is the best way. It advises us not to waste time in idle pursuits, and false pride. It urges us to surrender to God before it is too late.

“Wa antum saamidoon
Fasjudoo lillaahi wa'budoo”

“Wasting your time in vanities?

But fall down in prostration to Allah, and adore Him!” (Quran 53.61 – 53.62)
