(Mind17)-Science, Philosophy and Spirituality

I started this series of talks apparently about mind two months ago.

First month, I focused on science – current research to understand our Mind which science views as ‘the brain in action’. I gave you a gist of many research papers that have looked into various aspects of Mind. These efforts try to look at Mind objectively and almost deny the existence of subjective side of the Mind.

Then I spent another month questioning this premise of science that mind and brain are one and the same and there is nothing beyond the body. I call it philosophy of the Mind. It focusses more on concepts like soul, realities that are beyond the reach of our physical Mind, a peek into states that can potentially give us lasting peace etc.

Starting from next episode, that is in a new year ahead, I will focus more on realities beyond our physical world, realities beyond our mental preoccupation, and things that can really give us lasting peace. I call it spirituality. I try to make those talks more as a practical approach based on Yoga.

Science deals with the material world that is around us. Spirituality focusses on that which makes us what we really are. And Philosophy provides a bridge between science and Spirituality. All three are essential and are mutually beneficial.

Unlike what people generally tend to think, science, philosophy and spirituality are not mutually contradictory. Each has its domain. Not only that one leads to another, there is lot of interaction between these three and they are mutually supportive.

For example, I am going to use our scientific knowledge about the Mind to explain the process of Yoga. While science claims to be agnostic about the soul, Yoga focuses mainly on the soul, but uses science to reach its ultimate goal.

In terms of my books related to these topics, my book “How does the Mind work” deals with the scientific aspects of the Mind. In that book, I cover most of the current research findings about the Mind as we know it scientifically. You can refer to that book for more details.

Please check the link https://books2read.com/Mind for a preview of the book as well as to purchase it if you need.

The second book namely, “Important Missing dimensions in our current understanding of the Mind” takes the scientific view further and points to domains beyond our material world. That book tries to fill the gaps in our scientific knowledge and introduces new domains that are more fulfilling.

Please check the link https://books2read.com/MissingDimensions for a preview of the book as well as to purchase it.

My third book “How and Why of Yoga and Meditation” focusses mainly on Spirituality and a methodology to enter this domain through Yoga. In a way, this book tries to explain Yoga in terms of our current scientific understanding of the Mind as well as our philosophic background on mind and beyond.

Please check the link https://books2read.com/HowAndWhyOfYoga for a preview of the book as well as to purchase it if you need.

All the three books are available both in e-book format as well as paperback formats. While e-book formats are available in almost all online stores, paperbacks may be available only on amazon, Barnes and Noble and such select stores, both online as well as offline.

On some stores such as amazon for example, you can buy all three as a series bundle titled “Marvels of the Mind Volume 1 to 3”.

In case you have already read these books or plan to purchase them now, please give your feedback through reviews. That will greatly help not only the book but also others who may want to read them. I would love to know your feedback.

At the moment there are no audio versions of these books. Some of them may be difficult to convert into audio since there are just too many illustrations. But I would love to restructure these books and bring out audio versions depending on your feedback. So, do take a look at them and let me know.

Enjoy your holidays and celebrate your Christmas. I will join you once again in the coming new year continuing this series.

Happy new year! Keep thinking and make it your new year resolution. Bye.
