“A sower went out to sow, But as he sowed,
Some seeds fell on the side of the
road and a bird came and ate it.
And some others fell on the rock
where there was not much soil, and within an hour it sprouted because there was
no depth of soil. But when the sun rose, it became hot, and because there were
no roots, it dried up.
And some fell among the thorns and
the thorns came up and choked it.
And others fell in the good soil
and it yielded fruit, some a hundredfold.
The people in the world are similar.
Some hear my words and forget them
since they are overpowered by worldly lures. They are like the seeds eaten away
by the birds.
Some hear me very superficially,
and since they don’t imbibe it deeply, they too forget it soon. They are like
the seeds fallen on the rocky soil. They react fast, but their interest is short
lived.
There are others who forget my advice
because of bad company they keep. They are like the seeds choked by thorns.
He who hears my word and
understands them, it is he who yields fruit."
