Mind
modulation is not deplorable per se, as long as - one knows what one is doing,
and there are no commercial motives behind them. But unfortunately, both these
criteria are lacking in some of today’s open ended mind modulation techniques
that are widely being propagated.
What we have
today is a mysterious concoction of religion, tantra, Yoga, Buddhism, Hata Yoga,
hocus-pocus, and what not!
Each
Guru has a secret technique (some even have patents on that) that only a person
who enrolls will be imparted – of course for a handsome fee and signing of
non-disclosure agreements!
There
seems to be lot of reliance on mental conditioning achieved by auto
suggestions, mental imagery, insistence on personal experience rather than
reasoning, weird body gestures, wide
ranging propaganda, endorsement by celebrities, motivated research findings, mysterious
props, and claims of tradition that don’t seem to have concrete footing in the antiquity.
One
needs to be very careful
before subjecting oneself to some of these practices. It is not just the
money you have at stake, but the most precious asset of yours – your mind!
