GV3…..Don’t go after petty things – Aim big

Let me continue with more verses from Bhagavad Gita in this episode, taking off from our previous discussion.

As usual, the verses are sung by Padmini Dinesh followed by English interpretations.

Verse 2.42

You come across many people around you who try to lure you by their sweet flowery words, convincing you that there is nothing in this world other than sense pleasures.

They quote high sounding philosophic scriptures to support their point. They pretend to be intellectuals.

In reality, they are the dumbest idiots.

Verse 2.43

These people are after worldly pleasures. They sell various ‘techniques’ promising you wealth, success in life, better after life, and so on.

Verse 2.44

They mute your ability to think and make you dumb followers. If you fall for their words and go after worldly things that they promise, you will only end up in confusion and will never attain the ultimate.

Verse 2.45

All these scriptures, ‘techniques’, and so on, can only give you material things, if at all.

You need to go beyond material things. You need to become spiritual; someone who is beyond the limitations of the body; someone who is not perturbed by ups and downs in life; someone who has a steady and focused mind; someone who is ever infused with inner wisdom that never wavers.

Verse 2.46

It is foolish to go after petty things when you can potentially attain much bigger things. There is no point wasting your time in digging a well when you are just in front of a massive river. Aim at the river.
