GV6…..How does one steady the mind?

Let me continue with more verses from Bhagavad Gita in this episode, taking off from our previous discussion. As usual, the verses are sung by Padmini Dinesh followed by English interpretations

Verse 2.60
The sense organs have a natural tendency to distract a person. They over power even a wise person. They force him to go after sense pleasures defeating all his attempts to control them. They are the ones that really prevent us from calming down the mind.
Verse 2.58
The only way is to effortfully keep away from all objects of sense pleasure. A turtle protects itself by withdrawing all its limbs into its shell. Once its limbs are inside, no one can easily attack it.
Similarly, when you keep yourself away from objects of sense pleasure, the sense organs automatically stop distracting the mind.

Verse 2.59

When the sense organs don’t get what they want, they gradually withdraw. There is nothing for them to go after.
But the desires for sense pleasures that are deep rooted in the mind, continue to trouble you. The mind keeps craving for them.
If you keep striving, and when you finally attain the ultimate experience, even these cravings for sense pleasures recede. They don’t trouble you anymore since the mind has found something more pleasurable than the sense pleasures.

That is when you attain the compete calmness of the mind.

That was Bhagavad Gita verses episode 6
