Swami Vivekananda was a great man. He firmly believed in the Advaita philosophy of Sankara.
According to Advaita, people who have done advanced spiritual practices, get completely liberated and merge with the Supreme soul, after their death. They never comeback.
But apparently, the soul of Swami Vivekananda, in spite of his spiritual advances, seems to be lingering around without attaining liberation. At least that is what the following story implies.
There is a Swami - a great devotee of Vivekananda, who claims that he can summon Vivekananda’s soul and make it answer his questions. He has a big ashram where he gets answers to your questions for a fee, of course. He uses a slightly different form of planchet, than the one we saw in the previous post.
This planchet has castors on either ends of the broader side of the planchet and a hole to insert a pencil at the narrow tip (see figure). The person who wants the answers from the spirit places his palm on the center area of the planchet.
The procedure is same as in the case of Ouija board we discussed before. Instead of moving the planchet to various alphabets on the board, the spirit moves the planchet and makes the pencil write the answer on the paper attached to the board. This is called ‘auto writing’.
It is hard to believe. But people flock to this Swami's Ashram (I am sure there are many like him, all over the world) even by paying a hefty donation for a reading. And Swami Vivekananda always obliges with an answer!
As always, how does this work? We will see that next.
